If Homeowners and Small Biz used Renewable Energy and owned their Power would overall Energy needs be reduced?
If homeowners and small business invested in solar and residential wind turbines, it would not only create jobs but reduce the need for any more power plants than we have already.
yes, but the ROI does not justify it
Why would anyone say Solar PV isn’t cost effective when in CA you can lease for the current cost of your bill?
Are people seriously misinformed about Solar PV and small residential wind turbines? Have you ever gotten any estimates? In 21 States the power company buys your power, and supplies you power at night. As your bill goes up you save. How is that not cost effective. Why do people cling to misinformation and refuse to accept renewable energy and toss off the yolk of Oil, step by step?
Solar is an excellent option in California. But California gets a great deal of sun.
In Pacific Northwest, though, it will take many, many years for a homeowner to recover the cost of solar panels in energy savings. And likewise, in the most populous areas of the country, it isn’t windy enough for people to recover the cost of wind turbines in a reasonable amount of time. And really, by the time people recover the cost, the equipment will need to be replaced.
I think that large-scale renewable energy is the solution, not small-scale. Building large solar plants in the southwest to convert water into hydrogen could fuel all of our cars. Building wind turbines off-shore could fuel all our homes. But power companies are going to be needed to do those things.
Can you easily reduce your energy use painlessly and at modest upfront cost?
The biggest bang for the buck is replacing incandescent lights with Compact fluorescent and/or LED
(The color is now much better on CFL’s and they have CFL dimmer bulbs. Use LED outside, they are incredibly low energy consumption but not the nicest color temperature to look at. If you have 20 light bulbs, on for many hours, just doing this could cut your bill in half.
Energy Efficient Appliances: Old Refrigerators, Old TV’s, Old Air Conditioners use a ton of power costing more over the long run than replacing them. The old refrigerator in the garage with a siz pack. Ouch. Costing a bundle. Better to get rid of it (sometimes your local power company will pick it up and pay you a rebate if you buy a new one. Get a used on on CL that’s newer. Keep your refrigerator full, The power comes from cycling on and off and when there’s cold food in there it stays cold longer and uses less power.
Home insulation. Attic insulation. Wall insulation. Floor insulation. Weatherizing doors and windows. Caulking drafts. Of course new windows are more efficient and there have been some rebates but the rebates are disappearing. Insulate!!! That’s not that expensive and pays back fast.
Plug TY’s and Stereos into power strips and turn them off when you’re not in the room. Turn lights off when you leave the room or get motion sensor switches to do that automatically.
Walk (better exercise than the gym)
Ride your bike (get some sunshine when you exercise)
Ride share (Spend more time with friends and co-workers in a relaxed environment and split cost of gas)
Use public transportation (that’s always and adventure in people watching and some buses hold bikes)
Make your next car Smaller, a Hybrid, a Chevy Volt
Solar Panels and Residential Wind turbines may cost less than you realize. Get a quote. Do some research on you tube and watch and hear others experiences to educate yourself. If you’re serious get 3 quotes.
Name some other ideas… this is a start…
I have a solar water heating system that will hopefully make it through another hurricane season. All bets are off.
I have all energy and water efficient appliances, but it’s a slippery slope. In order to get my clothing as clean as they should be, I need to run the washer for longer than my old one. So, do I save water or energy?
We also sprayed soy foam insulation in our rafters. That reduced our costs significantly.
I walk daily, but the grocery store is 4 miles away and it’s darned hot here!
Residential spinning roof vent repair?
I have 2 of the wind driven turbine attic ventilators on my roof. One of them does not spin as easily as the other. It needs a lot more wind to spin. I’ve tried going into the attic and spraying lubricant on it, with no luck. Should I just go ahead and get a new one, this one is only 2 yrs old. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
just as a side note: heat and moisture are still escaping through the turbine even if it isnt spinning. its not going to hurt anything to spin a little slower than the others. in fact some leading efficiency experts think that attics should be sealed off from the outside. treated as a second story, instead of as an attic. the first thing a contractor says is " well then you are going to have mold problems from the moisture in the attic" the efficiency expert will say the moisture that occurs in attics gets there from the outside atmosphere. sealing an attic airtight, will prevent mold, and bugs, plus it will save energy costs. so say the efficiency experts.
Do You Think Renewable Energy is Viable and Affordable for Homeowners and Small Business?
Ho Does Solar Energy Work? (am not affiliated with this company)
Residential Wind Turbine (I’m not affiliated with this company)
National Renewable Energy Laboratory

most are currently not a viable option for individual homeowners or small businesses because of the costs and the fact that none can currently be sustained for long periods. So unless you have a several liquid assets or money, none will be an affordable means of energy replacement for years to come.
How much does a non residential wind turbine cost?
like the up front cost to buy it

220 VOLT INDUCTION MOTOR 1 HP DC HITACHI MAKE?
HI
I HAVE .75KW 220 V.PEPULETION START.INDUCTION MOTOR
CAN I USE IT FOR RESIDENTIAL WIND TURBINE AND HOW
PLEASE HELP ME
THANKS
hey for Generation of low power generation, if u use it with mechanical coupling to a free rotating fan with a countrolling gears for wind turbine
What is the difference between these wind turbines?
the types of wind turbines i found was
industrial, agricultural, commercial, municipal, and residential
what is the difference between these?!
which wind turbine is used where.
I only know residential is for homes & its the smallest of all the wind turbines
but what about the others?
also compare their sizes please
thank you
PLEASE HELP!
i do not think there is that many types of wind turbines because wind turbine’s solo purpose is to make eletricity and they don not really bulid them in the suburbs because it may be noise and it take a lot of space and also ot needs a lot of wind so only a limited area will be able to set up wind turbines.
Where can I get a……?
Peronal wind turbine (for a residential living area) that is power grid integrated?
How much do they normally run? I know some power companies by the extra power put out by the wind turbine. I want a wind turbine that can supply a lot of power to my house.
I live in the mountains and wind is never and issue here. Do you have any links?

Have not seen any that are grid integrated. Will check back to see what you find.
Edit: Did a little checking all electric companies must purchase excess energy you produce. Call the customer service dept. from your local elec. company and ask for a written company policy of connecting a wind device to power grid. Many are encouraging this at this time since it is also a cheap source of power for them.

I love the ones that I can make, one day this will be mine.
